How can we support mental health within competitive high-pressure environments?

This question sits at the core of my research and practice. My work spans elite sport, youth sport, and the performing arts with application across athletes, coaches, officials, dancers, musicians, and academics.

My research has focused on self-compassion and self-criticism, gender, body image, and the systemic and organisational conditions that shape mental health in high-performance settings. My goal is to contribute to knowledge that helps these environments better balance performance and health — work that spans nearly 100 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and industry reports to date.
